About Enterprise Connect  (formerly VoiceCon)
Enterprise Connect is the new name of the event that you've known for a decade as VoiceCon. Earlier this year, we decided that time had come for our brand to reflect the multi-faceted, multi-media communications world in which we all live. Enterprise communications includes voice, video and data media, and none of these is more important than any of the others--each has its different role to play in a future where communications will increasingly be integrated into all facets and systems of business.

And so the name of the leading event in enterprise communications must reflect the equal importance of all communications media, and the fact that enterprise communications takes place on a real-time, near-real-time, and non-real-time basis, according to the needs of the business and the individual user in the given situation.

Cisco and Avaya Neck and Neck In Market Share of Enterprise Voice

In a surprising result, Avaya and its recently acquired Nortel Networks voice assets did not deliver a clear knock-out punch to prime enterprise telephony rival Cisco. Instead, it appears the two are settling into a far more evenly matched competition for market leadership, according to a new Infonetics Research report on Q1 2010 Enterprise Unified Communication, VoIP and TDM Equipment. Most notably, the report found that Cisco enjoys only a slight lead in the overall enterprise telephony market for the quarter, due to a 25 percent bump in Avaya’s quarterly revenue after taking on Nortel’s enterprise solution business. Both companies posted their highest PBX revenue figures since the end of 2008.

“We expected the acquisition of Nortel’s enterprise assets to put Avaya in the clear lead for overall PBX equipment market share leadership, and while Avaya did receive a nice bump this quarter, softness in the acquired Nortel business combined with strong results by Cisco meant that Cisco and Avaya essentially tied for revenue market share, although Avaya is ahead in terms of line shipments,” said Matthias Machowinksi, directing analyst for enterprise voice and data at Infonetics Research. “This unfolding battle will be interesting to watch over the coming quarter, as both companies bring certain strengths and weaknesses to the table.”

Other report highlights include a 7 percent year-over-year gain from Q1 2009 for the enterprise telephony market after a disappointing first half of the year, with the greatest growth in PBX equipment coming from North America; and sales of unified communications solutions are temporarily down because of expired promotional efforts, though Infonetics predicts Cisco and Avaya will lead the market back to growth this year.

RSI Offers Upgrade Assurance to Avaya / Nortel Norstar customers

The recent announcement by Avaya to eliminate the sale of Norstar gives customers the option of upgrading to Avaya BCM, IP Office or enterprise grade platforms. The option to upgrade generally carries a price tag.

RSI is making this transition easier. All Norstar customers of RSI Call Accounting are assured that it will perform for all Avaya telephony platforms. Customers subscribing to the RSI Extended Annual Maintenance plan will receive new drivers that function with their existing investment. Non-maintenance customers can upgrade to BCM, IP Office or other Avaya gear for a minimal re-configuration fee.

Customers moving to other vendor platforms will most likely not need to upgrade RSI Call Accounting either. The software is multi-platform and multi-vendor compliant.

Contact us for details.

AVAYA's RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to higher than expected demand and earlier than anticipated component obsolescence, Avaya must announce the End-of-Sale (EoS) for NEW systems of Norstar 3x8, CICS, MICS, and Call Pilot 100/150 products, effective October 4, 2010. Please keep in mind that there is no impact to Avaya Business Communications Manager (BCM) or any other heritage Nortel products!

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU? A FEW THINGS:
Learn more about Avaya BCM and Avaya IP Office to determine best solution for new opportunities:
1. Avaya IP Office: IP Office Release 6.0 introduces new hardware and features to simplify the ordering, deployment and use of IP Office in small offices below 20 users - including key system functionality with Essential Edition - PARTNER® Version (North America and Americas International only). It also supports enhanced capacity and resilience for multi-site installations as well as several new ranges of telephones, enhancements in applications, and much more.
2. Avaya BCM: Both the BCM50 and BCM450 provide scalable migration paths and open up incremental business growth opportunities. Customers can keep their phones and in many cases they can also retain their fiber trunk and station modules, which can account for up to 70% of the total cost of a new telephony system. The need to re-train end users is also minimized when migrating to BCM as feature, functionality, and use are similar to the Norstar system.
3. We are offering a Migration Toolkit which provides all the information you need to assist you in transitioning from selling Norstar to selling Avaya BCM or Avaya IP Office. The migration collateral and sales enablement tools below will assist you in understanding and positioning the best solution for the customer with confidence.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO AVAYA NORSTAR CUSTOMERS?
• Avaya will support the Norstar products for a total of six (6) years after the effective EoS date of October 4, 2010
• The Avaya support policy of three (3) years of Manufacturer Support beyond the effective End of Sale date applies to all Norstar products for both hardware and software (after the October 4, 2010 End of Sale date). Avaya is providing two (2) additional years of Manufacturer's Support on Norstar software compared to the one (1) year of Manufacturer Support on software that is normally provided by Avaya's standard support policy.
• Avaya will also provide and an additional three (3) years of Extended Services Support after the Manufacturer's Support period for both hardware and software, bringing the total length of support to six (6) years after the effective EoS date.

RSI Offers New Internet and Device Management Tools for Today's Economy

Have you ever wanted to know how much time an employee is surfing the internet while at their desk during working hours?

Some sources estimate that 30% to 40% of employee internet usage is not work related. Those same sources also indicate that 92% of online stock trading occurs during peak work hours and 46% of online shopping takes place from the office.

I do not know about you, but these statistics should sound an alarm within an organization to begin tracking and managing this abusive activity.

Look no further. Resource Software International Ltd. (RSI) now offers the ability to restrict, control, and report on the internet usage at specific workstations and at anytime of the day.

With the use of RSI’s SHADOW Internet Control (IC), company administrators can control how long and when users are allowed Internet access. Additionally SHADOW IC can block access to specific web sites, and restrict use of FTP sites. SHADOW IC also allow organizations and administrators to control who has access to e-mail, gaming, instant messaging, live streaming and desktop Windows applications.

SHADOW IC is a comprehensive time management, security and productivity enhancement application that enables administrators to set limits on employee access to time wasting web activities while still permitting them to reach the sites they need to conduct business. Policies can be defined by user or groups of users or PCs and scheduled for specific hours.

There are some obvious web sites that administrators will want to restrict such as Facebook and online gaming and internet pornography sites, but what are some of the other common sites employees are visiting while on company time?

With the use of RSI’s SHADOW Internet Reporter (IR), administrators now have the tools to monitor the browsing activity of employees.

SHADOW IR offers managers the ability to generate reports to examine and monitor internet behavior of their staff. These reports and data can be used to educate personnel, establish internet usage policies, detect intrusion activity and monitor network bandwidth.

Unchecked Internet access can expose a business to network bottlenecks, theft of intellectual property and productivity loss from personal use. The statistics mentioned earlier indicate that it is a critical time to begin monitoring and controlling this activity to help ensure the organizations bottomline remains intact, if not more profitable at the end of the year.

With the influx of portable storage devices and removable media, data theft is becoming an increasing threat to organizations. Devices such as USBs, Wi-Fi, FireWire, Bluetooth, iPods, MP3s connect seamlessly to company networks, without IT administrators having any knowledge that their corporate data is being exposed. Portable devices also provide an easy entryway for infecting systems with viruses or malicious software.

RSI’s SHADOW Device Patrol acts as a corporate watchdog securing company devices to minimize unauthorized access to proprietary information. New devices connected to your computers are automatically recognized and tracked by the software and can be easily managed based on administrators policies.

In today’s economic climate, cost savings and profitability are the main drivers for investing and adopting new technology. By regaining control of the corporate internet and device usage, companies will not only establish a new set of usage polices that will help increase their bottomlines, they will also be protecting themselves and future company interests.
